Jolin is currently doing her senior thesis research in the San Gabriel Valley in Southern California, called the first suburban Chinatown. Through archival research in the local libraries, oral history interviews, and participant observation while working at one of the oldest Chinese restaurants in the area, her research focuses on the connection between food, language, and race and ethnicity. Her thesis aims to highlight how restaurants have acted as and continue to be vital spaces for the SGV community.
