Unless indicated, EMR events are for everyone, so feel free to come to our events, sign up for our newsletter, and apply for our opportunities! A few of our offerings are for undergrads only, but unless noted, all are welcome.
Here are some more quick facts about us:

1. WHAT IS EMR? The Committee on Ethnicity, Migration, Rights (EMR) is a standing committee in the Faculty of Arts & Sciences. EMR Secondary Fields offer students an opportunity to pursue sustained, interdisciplinary study of ethnicity, migration, Indigeneity, and human rights. EMR also hosts academic working groups in Asian American and Pacific Islander Studies, Dissertation Writing, Latinx Studies, and Muslim American Studies. 2. EMR SECONDARY FIELDS: 2 FIELDS. EMR: interdisciplinary study of ethnicity, migration, indigeneity, and human rights, with a particular focus on Asian American, Latinx, and Native American studies. OR Latinx Studies (“Latino Studies” in my.harvard): specific focus on Latinx populations in the United States, including attention to history, language, culture, demographics, legal rights, and immigration status. 3. EMR SECONDARY FIELD REQUIREMENTS: FIVE courses (20 credits). ONE Portal Course, such as an EMR Topics course. AND: For EMR: FOUR courses from the EMR Courses That Count list, TWO above introductory & ONE OR MORE with a global or transnational perspective. OR for Latinx Studies: THREE courses in Latinx Studies, TWO above introductory (up to TWO can be in Latin American Studies with approval). ONE comparative ethnicity or culture course on another ethnic group in the US or with a globally comparative framework. Courses that Count at this link: tinyurl.com/EMR-Courses

4. EMR WORKING GROUPS: are student-led and offer interdisciplinary collaboration between faculty, graduate, and undergraduate scholars. There is an Asian American & Pacific Islander Studies Working Group (AAPISWG), a Latinx Studies Working Group (LSWG), and a Muslim American Studies Working Group (MASWG). 5. OTHER OPPORTUNITIES:
EMR Student Advisory Council (SAC): watch for announcements, lunch meetings for student information sharing, program ideas, input and feedback on our activities.
EMR Scholars: small one-time discussion seminars for selected undergrads and an invited scholar. Watch for announcements, see past offerings on our Opportunities page.
EMR Summer Thesis Research Grant & EMR Thesis Prizes: financial support recognizing EMR-related research (for Juniors & Seniors).
