Join the Committee on Ethnicity, Migration, Rights (EMR), the Harvard Asia Center, Harvard Foundation, Taskforce for Asian American Progressive Advocacy and Studies (TAPAS), and Harvard Vietnamese Association (HVA) for a special presentation of Elizabeth Ai’s critically acclaimed 2024 documentary NEW WAVE, which the New York Times called “a soft scream of a film about ’80s Vietnamese diaspora culture and style.” New Wave is a coming-of-age story about young Viet teen refugee trailblazers who pioneered a raucous diaspora music scene in the 1980’s.

New Wave premiered at Tribeca in June 2024 where it won the Albert Maysles Special Jury Award for the Best New Documentary Director. Since then, New Wave has screened at over 20 festivals, earning additional accolades.

Now, through Ai’s 50 for 50 Campaign, an effort to do fifty more screenings in 2025, which is also the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, we are delighted to bring New Wave to Harvard on November 3rd.
