AY 2024-2025 EMR DWG applications are due August 23, 2024.

The Dissertation Working Group of the Committee on Ethnicity, Migration, Rights (EMR), supports post-exams doctoral students doing research on topics related to ethnic studies, race, Indigeneity, borders, and migration. Doctoral students from all Harvard schools and departments are welcome to apply.

This is EMR’s seventh year hosting this group, which provides interdisciplinary exchange, non-judgmental support, and accountability toward each member’s personal writing goals. Sessions include time for checking in and building community, and revolve around discussing pre-circulated drafts of works in progress.

The group will meet Thursdays from 1-3pm ET approximately biweekly for the full academic year. Depending on the availability & preference of applicants, we will either have sessions on Zoom on in-person. A year-long commitment is required unless an exception is approved in advance.

For questions, please contact EMR Program Director Leslie J. Fernandez.

In addition to the Dissertation Working Group, EMR supports Working Groups in Asian American and Pacific Islander Studies, Latinx Studies, and Muslim American Studies. We also grant undergraduate secondary field recognition for college students focusing on ethnic studies, Indigenous Studies, migration studies, and individualized pathways that address issues of migration, race, Indigeneity, ethnicity, and rights. Our interdisciplinary programming engages the scholarship and leadership of students at all levels.
