Massiel is a rising third year Ph.D. student in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures. Her research interests include Hispanophone Caribbean perspectives on modernity and modernization, subaltern modernities, theopolitics and the construction of nation-states, decolonial feminist studies, migration and diaspora studies, Afro-Caribbean religiosity, disability studies, embodied narratives, and crossing.
